The venue for the 34th International Symposium on Free Radicals 2017 is the Shonan Village Center in the Kanagawa Prefecture, which is located about 50 km southwest from Tokyo. Tokyo has two international airports, Narita International Airport (IATA airport code: NRT) and Haneda Airport (a.k.a. Tokyo International Airport; IATA airport code: HND). Travel times to the conference venue are about two hours from Haneda Airport and three hours from Narita Airport.

To access the venue you have to take the train first, followed by a bus or a taxi ride from a train station nearby. Two mayor train lines will bring you to the train stations closest to the venue. You can take the bus from both "Zushi" station of Japan Railway (JR) and "Shin-Zushi" station of Keikyu Railways. Please refer to the map below. Which one is more convenient depends on the airport of your arrival.

Local Transportation from Haneda airport to the conference venue:

Use the Keikyu Haneda Airport Line directly from the airport ("Keikyu Haneda Airport" station). Take a train heading for "Shin-Zushi", and get off at the final destination. The tickets for the train are bought at a ticketing machine or at the counter of the train station before boarding and are paid by distance (the price should be about 740 yen). Automatic gates are passed with these tickets at the start and destination stations (please make sure that you do not lose your ticket during the train ride). For information on the train lines and how to buy a ticket refer to this website. The train ride takes approximately 60 minutes from Haneda airport.

From Shin-Zushi station you have to take the Keikyu bus for "Shonan Village Center" at bus stop no. 1. The bus only runs one or two times every hour. Please refer to the following time table: bus timetable (n.b. Departure times from Shin-Zushi station are 2 minutes after those from Zushi station). Shin-Zushi station is a small station without much English support. Please refer to the guide below on how to find your way to the bus.

After arriving by train to the final stop "Shin-Zushi" proceed to the south exit. Insert your ticket into the automatic gates to exit the station. Then follow the road southbound. The bus station no. 1 is located after the 7-eleven convenience store on the same side of the road as the train station. Board either bus no. 16 or no. 26 bound for "Shonan Village Center". The following website on how to ride the regular bus in Japan might be helpful: buses in Japan. After an approximate ride of 30 minutes get off at "Shonan Kokusaimura Center Mae".

You have the choice between (A) the regular express train, which brings you directly to the final destination, and (B) the rapid airport express (Narita Express a.k.a. N'EX), which is a bit faster and more comfortable but more expensive and requires you to change trains to proceed to the final destination.

(A) To use the express train, go to the entrance of the JR railway station. Buy a ticket from the vending machine or the station staff (the price should be around 2,270 yen; no additional express fares are required). Enter the station by inserting the ticket into the automatic gates (please make sure that you do not lose your ticket during the train ride). Board the express train heading for "Zushi", "Yokosuka", or "Kurihama". There is about one departure per hour. Get off at Zushi station. The trip so far may take approximate 2 hours 30 minutes from Narita airport. From "Zushi" station, you have to take the local bus or a taxi. Please refer to the guide "Taking the bus from Zushi station" below.

(B) To use the JR Narita Express (N'EX) special express train you have to buy both a regular and a reserved seat ticket (the total price ranges from 3,770 yen to 4,420 yen). Everything can be bought most conveniently from the JR Travel Service Center or the JR Ticket Office (Midori-no-madoguchi). Tell the staff you want to go to "Zushi". The staff may also give you information on how to board the trains and how and when to change trains. Board the train with the destination "Yokohama" or "Ōfuna" (please make sure your reserved seat ticket is valid until the respective destination). There are about two departures per hour. At Yokohama or Ōfuna station get off and change to the local JR Yokosuka Line. Take a train heading southbound for "Zushi", "Kurihama", or "Yokosuka". Get off at Zushi station. The trip so far may take approximate 2 hours 15 minutes from Narita airport. Please refer to the guide "Taking the bus from Zushi station" below.
